The renovations of the North Haven SLSC had been a long time coming. However, after several years of planning and lobbying state and local governments, heavy fundraising by members, and saving by the committee, all funding was approved early in 2006, giving the club the green light to advertise for tender.
The club was steadily emptied, and members sheds and garages filled with whatever would fit from the clubroom, and work officially began on site on Monday the 5th of June. We thank all those members who had given up storage space to help the club out during this important moment in the club's history.
Finally, on Saturday the 16th of December, the finished club was officially reopened. The morning saw representations by the various parties, including speeches by the Honourable Carmel Zollo MP, Minister for Emergency Services, Gary Johanson, Mayor of City Port Adelaide Enfield, and Bill Jamieson, President of Surf Life Saving South Australia. The day also allowed for the public to have their first opportunity to view the club and gain an insight into the work that is undertaken by the volunteer surf lifesavers that patrol their local beaches every weekend of the summer months.
| The North Haven Surf Life Saving Club is proud to support Green Energy Technology, and took the opportunity the renovations offered to introduce this technology to the club. Solar panels installed on the club's roof, partially funded by Origin Energy, harnesses the sun's UV light and generates power, which is then used within the club's facilities, with surplus power put back into the power grid for use by the local community. For more information on Origin Energy's Solar Power Packages, including information on government rebates, visit the Origin Energy website. |
Subject to future grant funding approval, the club is also looking to have rainwater tanks installed in the near future, giving us the capabilities to conserve precious water supplies. This will support the state government's water conservation plans, and assist with the current Level 3 water restrictions and permanent water conservation measures.
Thanks are also extended to ASC who continually assist the club in it's fundraising efforts, who this time provided funds for some of the smaller items that are located around the club.
Below is a short selection of announcements that were made to members in the 12 months leading up to the commencement of works.
